Emmy, Tony, and GRAMMY Award-winning performing artist André De Shields (“Hadestown,” “The Wiz”) joins award-winning filmmaker and photographer Sekou Luke (Notes from Harlem) and noted music journalist Christian John Wikane (PopMatters) for “Unscripted Live,” an interview series that spotlights the stories of legendary artists, their resilience, and their creative regeneration, on Monday, November 28 at 7 PM.
Christian will conduct a live one-on-one interview with André, currently starring in “Death of a Salesman” on Broadway, followed by a short film that celebrates Season 2 of “Unscripted” plus a sneak preview of Season 3. Trailblazing singer-songwriter Rahsaan Patterson will join Christian for a special post-screening talkback.
In a career spanning more than half a century, André De Shields has acquired a number of sobriquets, among them, “Broadway Diety,” “Professional Charmer,” and “Papa Dré.” Mr. De Shields has also distinguished himself as a director, philanthropist and educator. His defining theatrical performances include roles in the original Broadway productions of The Full Monty (Tony Award Nomination), Play On! (Tony Award nomination), Ain’t Misbehavin’ (Emmy Award), and the titular role in The Wiz.
