Hadestown marks the first time in over a decade that a woman has been the solo author of a musical: writing the music, lyrics, and book, and is the fourth time in Broadway history a woman has accomplished this creative feat. The show originated as Mitchell’s indie theater project that toured Vermont which she then turned into an acclaimed album. With Chavkin, her artistic collaborator, Hadestown has been transformed into a genre-defying new musical that blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine a sweeping ancient tale.

Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers, and singers, Hadestown delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience.

The creative team for Broadway features Tony Award winner Rachel Hauck (set design); four-time Tony Award nominee Michael Krass (costume design); two-time Tony Award winner Bradley King (lighting design); Tony Award winners Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz (sound design); Chita Rivera Award winner and three-time Bessie Award winner David Neumann (choreography); Liam Robinson (music direction and vocal arrangements); Tony Award winners Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose (arrangements and orchestrations); Ken Cerniglia (dramaturgy); and Stewart/Whitley (casting).

The Original Broadway Cast Recording of Hadestown from Sing It Again Records was released digitally this summer, and topped Billboard’s Broadway Cast Recording chart, and debuted at #8 on the Top Album chart. To date, the album has been streamed over 47 million times.

The two-disc CD set featuring a 64-page booklet was released on November 1 and the upcoming triple-vinyl edition will be available starting Friday, November 29. Both editions include complete song lyrics and never-before-seen photos of the Hadestown cast and creative team in the studio, and other exclusive content.

Hadestown electrified audiences with its 2016 world premiere at New York Theatre Workshop, which is the longest-running show in that celebrated theater’s 40-year history. The production then received its Canadian premiere at Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre in 2017 and then a 2018 sold-out engagement at the London’s National Theatre prior to Broadway. Hadestown was developed with funding from the Eli and Edythe Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center and was further developed by The Ground Floor at Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Hadestown was co-conceived by Ben t. Matchstick.

Lead producer Mara Isaacs said, “Hadestown is a testament to the power of live theater to connect us all. It started in 2006 as an indie theater project, traveling around New England in a silver-painted school bus and has grown to something that has touched millions of people. As this show has developed, we have welcomed a wonderful group of artists, friends, collaborators, fans, and fellow co-producers to join Anaïs Mitchell and Rachel Chavkin on this journey. And as we look forward to the upcoming national tour and beyond, I can’t help but reflect on Anaïs, jammed into that tiny silver bus with a group of friends, all simply believing in the power of art to change the world.”

Rolling Stone hailed him as “angel-voiced,” The Hollywood Reporter called him a “dreamy delicacy,” Time Out New York praised his “otherworldly high-tenor,” and WFUV Radio raved about his “gorgeous, gentle voice.” According to New York Stage Review, his “keening tenor reaches to a startlingly clear, pure falsetto.”

Reeve Carney originated the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the record-breaking Broadway musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark. A lifelong musician, Reeve jumped at the opportunity to perform a score by U2’s Bono and The Edge-not to mention re-team with director Julie Taymor, who he’d worked with in her film, The Tempest. In 2013, however, Carney finally hung up his Spidey suit and headed to Dublin for Showtime’s buzzed-about John Logan/Sam Mendes series, “Penny Dreadful,” in which he played reckless hedonist Dorian Gray. Carney’s latest album, Youth is Wasted, was recorded primarily in his New York apartment. In an upcoming Jeff Buckley biopic, Carney will play the late singer, marrying his love of music and acting. Reeve becoming a performer was all but a foregone conclusion: almost everybody in his family works in the arts. His great-uncle was actor Art Carney. His jewelry designer mother has a degree from Cincinnati College- Conservatory of Music, his father wrote jingles.

Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone -Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.

HADESTOWN star Reeve Carney performed with his sister, Paris and his brother, Zane for a sold-out audience at The Green Room 42 on August 25. The family has been making music together their entire lives and came together in harmony to perform their original songs in New York.

Reeve Carney, who returns to the club after a string of sold-out solo concerts over the last year, is currently starring on Broadway in Hadestown, the winner of eight Tony Awards, including “Best Musical.” Reeve was nominated for the Outer Critics Circle Award for “Outstanding Actor in a Musical” and two Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards, including “Favorite Leading Actor in a Musical.” His five-time Independent Music Award-winning album, Youth Is Wasted spotlights his distinctive original music. Reeve originated the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the record-breaking Broadway musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark. A lifelong musician, Reeve jumped at the opportunity to perform a score by U2’s Bono and The Edge-not to mention re-team with director Julie Taymor, who he’d worked with in her film, The Tempest. In 2013, however, Reeve finally hung up his Spidey suit and headed to Dublin for Showtime’s buzzed-about John Logan/Sam Mendes series, “Penny Dreadful,” in which he played reckless hedonist Dorian Gray.

Zane Carney – dubbed “the future of electric guitar” by The Huffington Post – is a singer/songwriter and Grammy Award-nominated guitarist, most known for his work with John Mayer, Avril Lavigne, Broadway’s Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark, and LA-based Rock band Carney. Zane has worked with icons including Bono and Edge of U2, David Foster, Justin Timberlake, and Don Was and has shared the stage with Keith Urban, Steven Tyler, Jackson Browne, Nicole Scherzinger, Stevie Wonder and many, many more. In 2013 John Mayer handpicked Zane, sans audition, to play guitar in his touring band and on his album Paradise Valley. Zane has headlined shows in Japan, Australia, Korea, Mexico, Europe, and of course many cities across the US. This notoriety has opened many new doors, including co-writing on Avril Lavigne’s 2018 release and opening for Jonny Lang. Evan + Zane is his new band formed with actor/singer Evan Rachel Wood (“Westworld”). Zane’s newest release, 2018’s Zane Carney: Live In Tokyo // The Bootlegs, is now streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play.

Paris Carney is an artist and songwriter born and raised in New York City and currently living in Los Angeles. This concert reunited her with her older brothers Reeve and Zane Carney; whom she used to sing with regularly prior to her touring with pop acts like Jonas Bothers and Hailee Steinfeld. She has penned hits for the likes of Adam Lambert, Bea Miller and other Top 40 artists. In addition, her artist moniker “O’Neil Hudson” has racked up millions of streams, citing Jeff Buckley and Fiona Apple as her biggest influences.

The Carneys becoming performers was all but a foregone conclusion: almost everybody in their family works in the arts. Their great-uncle was actor Art Carney. Their jewelry designer mother has a degree from Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and their father wrote jingles.

When Hadestown opened on Broadway, Rolling Stone raved “Eva Noblezada is a fetching, potent Eurydice,” with The Wall Street Journal adding that she “gives a beautifully sincere, handsomely sung performance that you will find impossible to resist.” According to Elle Magazine, she “embodies a Charybdisian magnetism on stage, so alluring it feels dangerous.” New York Stage Review stated she “gives Eurydice an earnest nature and clear, bright vocals,” with Broadway News saying “Noblezada brings the same soulful voice to Eurydice that lifted the recent revival of Miss Saigon.”

“Girl No More,” Eva’s debut show at The Green Room 42 – which premiered when Eva was starring in Miss Saigon – was extended multiple times and went on to become one of the longest-running shows in the venue’s history.

Eva Noblezada starred on Broadway in the title role of Cameron Mackintosh’s epic revival of the musical Miss Saigon last season. She received a Tony Award nomination at the age of 21 for this role in her Broadway debut. She previously starred in the long-running London revival of the show, for which she received the WhatsOnStage Award for “Best Actress in a Musical.” She also played Eponine in the West End revival of the legendary musical Les Miserables. Eva was a high school student in Charlotte, NC, when she was discovered by casting director Tara Rubin at the 2013 Jimmy Awards in New York City. Rubin introduced her to Mackintosh and director Laurence Connor, who chose her to star in their long-awaited hit 2014 West End revival of Miss Saigon.

Eva Noblezada performs at The Green Room 42 (570 Tenth Avenue at 42nd Street, on the 4th Floor of Yotel) on Sunday nights: September 15 at 9:30 PM, October 13 at 7:00 PM, and October 27 at 9:30 PM. The cover changes is $35-$85. There is no food and drink minimum. For tickets, please visit www.TheGreenRoom42.com.

Update- Blackout Blues July 14, 2019 #oohitsablackout

As the cast prepared for their evening performance, Halle Kiefer of Vulture.com reported “a large power outage hit Manhattan Saturday evening, affecting parts of midtown Manhattan into the Upper West Side as of 7p.m. According to Con Edison, approximately 42,000 customers have lost power, including the paying customers attending tonight’s Broadway performances.

Rather than let their audiences shuffle home in silence, however, casts from musicals like Hadestown, Come From Away and Waitress, as well as performers who practiced all the way to Carnegie Hall, decided the show must go on and took their talents to the street.”
