Jaygee Macapugay (Broadway’s School of Rock) is strapping on her dancing shoes again to star as Imelda Marcos, the controversial former First Lady of the Filipino dictator Ferdinand Marcos, in Seattle Rep’s production of Here Lies Love, which begins previews on April 7, 2017.

She will be joined by pop singer Mark Bautista, who starred as Ferdinand Marcos in the acclaimed London production and is beloved in the Philippines for his chart-topping album Dream On. Original New York cast members Conrad Ricamora (The King and I, “How to Get Away with Murder”) and Melody Butiu will reprise their roles as Aquino and Estrella, respectively.

Playing the role of Imelda Marcos is nothing new for Ms. Macapugay, having played the role at The Public Theater.

According to Ben Brantley of The New York Times, “Imelda is now played quite devastatingly, by Jaygee Macapugay….she adds an extra dash of molten steel that makes this Imelda a red-hot chiller.”

According to Ms. Macapugay, “Here Lies Love is the show that combines everything I love about being a professional artist and the world needs it, especially now.  Presenting the show to a new audience at Seattle Repertory will be so special; it will feel completely new.  What a thrill!”

For Here Lies Love, Seattle Rep is transforming their Bagley Wright Theatre into a vibrant dance party, where techno beats spin and tell the story of the People Power Revolution that inspired the world and changed the Philippines forever. Jaygee Macapugay (Broadway’s School of Rock) is strapping on her dancing shoes again to star as Imelda Marcos, the controversial former First Lady of the Filipino dictator Ferdinand Marcos, in Seattle Rep’s highly anticipated immersive theatrical event, Here Lies Love.

Here Lies Love features music and lyrics by Academy and Golden Globe Award-winning, culture icon David Byrne (Talking Heads) and Grammy Award-winner Fatboy Slim.

Directed by two-time Tony-nominated director Alex Timbers, Here Lies Love traces the non-violent restoration of democracy in the Philippines in 1986 and follows the meteoric rise and dramatic fall of the controversial First Lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos. This revolutionary music experience is an immersive, 360-degree spectacle unlike anything you’ve ever seen before!

Other original New York cast members featured include Renee Albulario, Debralee Daco, Jeigh Madjus, Enrico Rodriguez, Trevor Salter, Janelle Velasquez and Tobias Wong, who will be joined by Belinda Allyn (Allegiance), Jordan DeLeon, Michael Feldman,  Jonelle Margallo, Geena Quintos and Shea Renne (Allegiance).

Starting April 7, 2017, performances run Wednesday-Sunday and Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. and select Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday matinees at 2:00 p.m. (no matinees during previews). Press Opening Night is set for Thursday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. All performances play Seattle Repertory Theatre’s Bagley Wright Theatre, located at Seattle Center at the corner of Second Ave. and Mercer St., Seattle, Washington.

The entire creative team from the acclaimed Public Theater production joins helmer Timbers for Seattle Rep’s staging including scenic designer David Korins (Hamilton), and choreographer Annie-B Parson, costume designer Clint Ramos, lighting designer Justin Townsend, sound designers M. L. Dogg and Cody Spencer, and projection designer Peter Nigrini.
