Contributions to the André De Shields Fund on Day of the Badger Make a Difference for Underrepresented UW-Madison Undergraduate Students to Thrive

André De Shields invites YOU to participate in Day of the Badger, from April 5-April 6. Elevate the richness of diversity in the arts on campus with a gift to the André De Shields Fund, which supports artistic projects and performances created, performed, designed, or produced by undergraduate students (both arts majors and non-arts majors) at UW-Madison who are historically underrepresented on our stages and in our audiences.

MATCHING GIFT AVAILABLE: Thanks to Andre De Shields, your gift will be matched dollar for dollar — up to $5,000 — during Day of the Badger.

The multi-talented André De Shields has it all — a Tony, a Grammy, an Obie, and an Emmy. He also has a diploma from Wisconsin’s flagship university. But as a student of color, he was denied opportunities on campus to exhibit his talent on stage. In recognition of the significant achievements in the performing arts by UW Madison alumnus André De Shields, and as a clarion call to enhance and improve the campus climate, the André De Shields Fund will support underrepresented UW-Madison undergraduate students with the resources and platforms for artistic expression that elevate the richness of our campus’s diversity.

The current tally is $10,265 and the goal is $10,500. Let’s make a difference. Click here to donate. If you missed the Day of the Badger window, you can still contribute here.

The André De Shields Fund encourages creativity, imagination, and academic excellence by creating an inclusive campus through artistic expression. Your gifts will go towards artistic projects and performances created, performed, designed, or produced by undergraduate students (both arts majors and non-arts majors) at UW-Madison who are historically underrepresented on our stages and in our audiences. Representation matters. Your support will ensure students of color have access the experiences denied to André De Shields and will create a safe and welcoming environment for them to learn, develop, create, and perform on their college campus.

Day of the Badger is a day — and then some — to celebrate and support UW–Madison. It’s exactly 1848 minutes for all alumni, students, and friends throughout Badger nation to make a far-reaching impact in a short amount of time. dayofthebadger.org
