Allen Gilmore Stars as Ebenezer Scrooge in A CHRISTMAS CAROL at Goodman Theatre for select performances.
The 44th annual production is directed Jessica Thebus, who co-adapted and directed the 2020 audio streaming version, which drew an audience of 150,000+ experiencing the production online and on-air in an unprecedented partnership with Chicago Public Radio WBEZ and Vocalo. Chicago favorite Larry Yando returns for his 14th year as Ebenezer Scrooge-with Allen Gilmore stepping into the miserly businessman’s shoes for nine performances-leading a cast of 30 including returning favorites and newcomers. Allen Gilmore (Ebenezer Scrooge Alternate) returns to the Goodman, where he previously appeared in An Enemy of the People, Yasmina’s Necklace, Objects in the Mirror, The Matchmaker and A Christmas Carol. Chicago credits include The African Company Presents Richard the Third and Joe Turner’s Come and Gone (Congo Square Theatre Company); Man in the Ring, Cyrano, Endgame, Sizwe Banzi Is Dead, Waiting for Godot and Radio Golf (Court Theater); Argonautika and Arabian Nights (Lookingglass Theater Company); Love’s Labor’s Lost (Chicago Shakespeare Theater) and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (Writers Theatre). Gilmore is a 2015 Lunt-Fontanne Fellow, a 2015 3Arts awardee, a 2019 Nicholas Ruddall Prize recipient and an ensemble member of Congo Square Theatre Company. This summer, Gilmore starred opposite André De Shields in St. Louis Shakespeare Festival’s production of King Lear.


I caught up with Allen at the 2021 Sarah Siddons Society of Chicago Actor of the Year Award Benefit where he paid tribute to André, when the Tony, Grammy and Emmy winning Hadestown star received the 2021 Sarah Siddons Society of Chicago Actor of the Year Award at The Edge Theater in Chicago on October 25.
