GRATEFUL READY OPEN WILLING Founder and Broadway Casting Director Arnold J. Mungioli (Fela! Ragtime, Show Boat, Fosse, etc.) is celebrating Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month with an “AAPI HERITAGE MONTH: LET’S HEAR FROM THE TEENS” panel featuring Sway Bhatia (The Perfect Fit, The Mighty Ducks Game), Amaya Braganza (The King and I, Annie), Lynn Masako Cheng (The King and I) “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), Avelina Sanchez (Corner of Bitter and Sweet, The Little Dancer), and Isa Sanchez (Belongingness, Corner of Bitter and Sweet) on Tuesday, May 25th at 7:00 p.m. on Facebook Live.
In a time of rising violence against Asian-Americans, AAPI Heritage Month acknowledges the need to #stopasianhate, recognize Asian Accomplishments, and Mungioli will talk with the teens about their hopes and vision for the way forward as young Asian American female artists.
“It is always in the voices of the Youth that we find our way forward,” Mungioli said, “And with all the positive shift in the Theater during the shutdown, it is my hope that in listening to these brilliant young minds express themselves, understanding and communication will help us to heal and figure out how to continue our way forward together.”
GRATEFUL READY OPEN WILLING (G.R.O.W.) was started when the pandemic began to bring together the Theater Community and creatives of all kinds in a place to receive support, inspiration, and coaching as we all navigate our industry’s grand pause and eventual reopening. G.R.O.W. has offered numerous events, posts, and live talks to nurture our creative souls, stay connected to what we love about what we do, and inspire the Broadway Community to keep going. Previous live talks have included “Black Lives Matter” with Terry Burrell (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Swinging on a Star, Dreamgirls, etc.), Danielle Greaves (Show Boat, Rent, etc.), Sahr Ngaujah (Moulin Rouge, Fela!, etc.), and Kenneth Roberson (Avenue Q, Black and Blue, etc.), and most recently a talk entitled “Broadway Heroes” with Jeff Whiting (Open Jar Institute, Bullets Over Broadway, Big Fish, etc.) of the BROADWAY RELIEF PROJECT, who organized the Broadway Community to manufacture PPE for Hospital Workers when Broadway shut down at the start of the pandemic.
“AAPI HERITAGE MONTH: LET’S HEAR FROM THE TEENS” will take place on Facebook Live tomorrow (Tuesday) Evening May 25th, 2021 at 7pm in the private Facebook group, GRATEFUL READY OPEN WILLING. All members of the Theater Community are welcome to join the group, attend live, and ask questions. A recording of the conversation is expected to be released within 48 hours of the event on the public GRATEFUL READY OPEN WILLING YouTube Channel, Instagram, Twitter Feed, and Facebook Page, all of which are open and accessible to everyone.
