Musical Theatre West Celebrates AAPI Heritage Month with Paulo K Tiról and Noam Shapiro’s ON THIS SIDE OF THE WORLD as Fundraiser for Long Beach’s Filipino Migrant Center 

Musical Theatre West in Long Beach, CA is kicking off their AAPI Heritage Month celebration with highlights from On This Side of the World on Saturday, May 1 at 7 PM PT (10 PM ET).

Hosted by On This Side of the World’s creators, Paulo K Tiról and Noam Shapiro and MTW’s Paul Garman and Michael Betts, this virtual event features existing videos from the National Alliance for Musical Theatre New Works Festival, Prospect Theater Co.’s IGNITE concert series, and NY Theatre Barn’s New Works Series interspersed with conversations about the creation of this brand new musical. The presentation will feature performances by Diane de Boer-Phelan, Kay Trinidad Karns, Jaygee Macapugay, Michael Protacio, Marc de la Cruz, Vincent Rodriguez III, Belinda Allyn, Joanne Javien Coudriet, Albert Guerzon, and Kevin Schuering. Also, OTSOTW creators Paulo K Tiról and Noam Shapiro, along with cast member Joanne Javien (who grew up in Musical Theatre West’s neighborhood), will be chatting LIVE with Paul Garman and Michael Betts from Musical Theatre West.

Tickets are available, FREE OF CHARGE, here. The event is open to the [virtual] public, and will be used to raise funds for Long Beach’s Filipino Migrant Center.

In On This Side of the World, (Music & Lyrics by Paulo K Tiról, Developed with & Directed by Noam Shapiro) actors give voice to Filipino immigrants navigating old lives and new beginnings, as a one-way ticket sends them on a journey 8,000 miles from home. Through a vibrant mix of styles and tones, from torch songs to bubblegum pop, romantic ballads to power anthems, Paulo K Tiról’s sung-through musical becomes a love letter to the Filipino-American dream.

This is a livestream with on-demand video available after the show. You can watch it live, or view the video for a certain amount of time after the show takes place.
