On Friday, April 2nd, Broadway luminaries Diane de Boer-Phelan (School of Rock, King and I Founder & Leader of Broadway Diversity Project, etc.), Ali Ewoldt (the first Asian Christine in Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, King and I, Les Misérables) Ann Harada (Avenue Q Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, 9 to 5, Les Misérables, Seussical, M. Mungioli (Fela!, Ragtime, Show Boat, Fosse, etc.) of GRATEFUL READY OPEN WILLING for a conversation about their lives as Asian American Women of the Theater Community in a time of rising violence against Asian-Americans to #stopasianhate, and also Celebrate Asian Joy, Uplift Asian Artists, Support Asian Businesses, Protect Asian Communities, Recognize Asian Accomplishments, and talk about their power and influence as Women Artists.

“When I look at these extraordinary women and their prodigious talent, I am humbled to have the privilege of having cast most of them in shows over the years, working with them as directors and choreographers of their own projects, to have auditioned them, to know them, and even, like so many other people, to have been blessed by sitting in an audience and experiencing their unique brands of theatrical magic and the profound effects of their work,” Mungioli said.

GRATEFUL READY OPEN WILLING (G.R.O.W.) was started when the pandemic began to bring together the Theater Community and creatives of all kinds in a place to receive support, inspiration, and coaching as we all navigate our industry’s grand pause and eventual reopening. G.R.O.W. has offered numerous events, posts, and live talks to nurture our creative souls, stay connected to what we love about what we do, and inspire the Broadway Community to keep going. Previous live talks have included “Black Lives Matter” with Terry Burrell  (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Swinging on a Star, Dreamgirls, etc.), Danielle Greaves (Show Boat, Rent, etc.), Sahr Ngaujah (Moulin Rouge, Fela!, etc.), and Kenneth Roberson (Avenue Q, Black and Blue, etc.), and most recently a talk entitled “Broadway Heroes” with Jeff Whiting (Open Jar Institute, Bullets Over Broadway, Big Fish, etc.) of the BROADWAY RELIEF PROJECT, who organized the Broadway Community to manufacture PPE for Hospital Workers when Broadway shut down at the start of the pandemic.

“Asian American Women of the Theater Community” will take place on Facebook Live Friday Evening April 2nd, 2021 at 7pm in the private Facebook group, GRATEFUL READY OPEN WILLING. All members of the Theater Community are welcome to join the group, attend live, and ask questions. A recording of the conversation is expected to be released within 24 hours of the MUNGIOLI THEATRICALS, INC
