On Wednesday, June 3 at 5:00pm EST, Signature’s award-winning Residency 5 playwright Lauren Yee (Cambodian Rock Band) and Chhaya Chhoum, the Executive Director of Mekong NYC, are hosting the next SigSpace Summit. Join them in conversation about advocacy within the Bronx (one of the communities hit hardest by Covid-19), fighting deportation, and promoting allyship with the Black community.
Lauren Yee’s plays include Cambodian Rock Band (South Coast Rep, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, La Jolla Playhouse, City Theatre, Merrimack Rep, Portland Center Stage, Jungle Theatre) and The Great Leap (Denver Center, Seattle Repertory, Atlantic Theatre, Guthrie Theatre, American Conservatory Theatre, Arts Club, InterAct Theatre, Steppenwolf, Long Wharf, Asolo Rep/Miami New Drama, Pasadena Playhouse). Honors: Doris Duke Artists Award, Steinberg Playwright Award, Whiting Award, Steinberg/ATCA Award, American Academy of Arts and Letters literature award, Horton Foote Prize, Kesselring Prize, Primus Prize, Hodder Fellowship, #1 and #2 plays on 2017 Kilroys List. Mekong NYC aims to improve the quality of life of the Southeast Asian community in the Bronx and throughout New York City by achieving equity through community organizing and healing, promoting arts, culture, and language, and creating a safety net by improving access to essential social services. The Southeast Asian community in the Bronx primarily consists of Cambodian Americans and Vietnamese Americans.

Signature Theatre recently announced a new program, SigSpace, which will bring artistically-anchored programming to the unique Signature Theatre lobby space. Signature Theatre launched SigSpace digitally on Friday, April 17 with online programming that connects Signature artists with the community during this moment in history, before welcoming audiences back to The Pershing Square Signature Center when it reopens.

Lia Chang is an actor, a multi-media content producer and co-founder of Bev’s Girl Films, making films that foster inclusion and diversity on both sides of the camera. Bev’s Girl Films’ debut short film, Hide and Seek was a top ten film in the Asian American Film Lab’s 2015 72 Hour Shootout Filmmaking Competition, and she received a Best Actress nomination. BGF collaborates with and produces multi-media content for artists, actors, designers, theatrical productions, composers, musicians and corporations. Lia has appeared in the films Wolf, New Jack City, A Kiss Before Dying, King of New York, Big Trouble in Little China, The Last Dragon, Taxman. She stars in and served as Executive Producer for the short independent films Hide and Seek, Balancing Act, Rom-Com Gone Wrong, Belongingness and When the World was Young. She is also the Executive Producer for The Cactus, The Language Lesson, The Writer and Cream and 2 Shugahs.
