BroadwayCon, Broadways biggest fan convention is helping focus the conversation on AAPI America with two panels at The New York Hilton Midtown (1335 6th Ave), moderated by OBC Avenue Q Cast Member, Erin Quill who blogs about Entertainment under FairyPrincessDiaries.com
The first panel is focusing on AAPI Female Playwrights, entitled The Future Is Female and will be held on Friday Jan 24th at 3pm in the Murray Hill Room.
Panelists will be Broadway’s FIRST Asian American Female Playwright, Young Jean Lee (Straight White Men, We’re Gonna Die).
The second most produced modern playwright of the 2019-2020 season, according to American Theater Magazine- Lauren Yee (The Great Leap, Cambodian Rock Band).
The First Asian Composer or Lyricist to win a Lucille Lortel Award, Helen Park (KPOP).
South Asian Media Award Nominee Rehana Lew Mirza (Bhangin It, Barriers) who is a Mellon National Playwright’s Residency at Ma-Yi Theatre, it is going to be a lively hour talking with these dynamic writers who are changing the stage with their work.

The second panel, Bring On The Men, will be an all male panel held on Sunday Jan 26 at 11:15am in the Regent Room, focusing on the journeys of some of the hottest leading men today, who also happen to be AAPI- from Hamilton, Marc delaCruz, from Dear Evan Hansen, Zach Piser, from Mean Girls, Nikhil Saboo, from Groundhog Day & the upcoming DAVE, Vishal Vaidya.
Topics explored will be the perception of AAPI men in the media and how it affects the stage and the opportunities these actors have been offered, the changing landscape of theater and what their families said when they told them they were making their lives as an Actor.
