Project1VOICE is an internationally recognized 501(c)(3) performing arts service organization committed to presenting programs and initiatives that promote and support the American theater, specifically black playwrights. One Play One Day is Project1VOICE’s signature event. It revives and reintroduces classic plays from the American theater canon that have been forgotten. Each year on the third Monday in June same day staged readings of the same play are presented, hence the name, One Play One Day. One Play One Day is now in its seventh consecutive year.
On the same evening, Project1VOICE will recognize outstanding achievements in the American theatre with the 3rd annual Project1VOICE HONORS. This year’s honorees include award-winning lighting designer Allen Lee Hughes, Broadway publicist and producer Irene Gandy and award-winning production designer Wynn Thomas. Each will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. All three are alums of the famed Negro Ensemble Company (NEC). A special tribute will honor the 50th anniversary of the NEC’s visionary co-founders-Robert Hooks, Gerald Krone and Douglas Turner Ward.
